In The Spotlight shines a light on Little Giant’s artists through a series of Q&A followed by a DJ mix. In preparation for the labels fourth release ‘Ching Chong Cha’ due out May 11th, we present you with a band of brothers hailing from South Africa, known as the Blaq Sons.
1. Describe yourself as an artist…
We four different individuals, who end up combining and merging souls to come up with music we love.
2. When did you start making house music?
We all started at different times but as Blaq Sons it was 2012.
3. Describe the first gig you ever played.
It was back in 2013, December at Pillars in the north west, South Africa, we had an early slot. And a lot of people were sitting outside, while only a few were inside. After about 20 minutes into the set, people began coming in numbers. It was magical.
4. How would you describe your sound?
Soothing, smooth, relaxing yet u can dance to it. Alien(if you listen to it with your eyes closed, it takes you to space or places you have never been)
5. What influences you? Where do you get your ideas?
Family, love, sorrow. But most of the times we would sit in front of the DAW blank, then instruments would play in our heads, and we would try to interpret them the best way we can.
6. What do you like the most about dance music?
It gives you the ability to free your soul, be anything in that small time. Forget your worries.
7. Who are some of your favorite DJs?
The list is endless, but to name a few, we follow Harvey Sunderland, Alvaro Hylander, Forbeta, Kuniyuki Takahashi and Vinny Da Vinci of course.
8. Describe your creative process.
We don’t really have a sequential way of producing a track. Sometimes we’d start a track based on an idea we are having or a certain direction we want to follow. While some songs, we’d be blank and as soon as we open the DAW, ideas would start flooding
9. What shows/releases do you have coming up?
At the moment we have nothing coming up regarding shows….
